By Patti Harris Ayers Along with the rest of the world, your Fayette County Board of REALTORS® is set on a new path with new resolutions, promises and a new President. Patti Harris Ayers was elected President for 2007, inaugurated in December of 2006, and begins her “reign” this month. A Georgia grown native, Ayers graduated from Fayette County High School and Georgia Tech with a BS in Industrial Management. This May, she celebrates her 20th anniversary as a REALTOR® , and has the following designations of Certified Residential Broker (CRB) and Greater Realtor Institute (GRI) graduate and owns her own business, Patti Ayers & Associates, Inc. “It’s a tough profession, but the rewards make it the greatest business to be in,” stated Ayers. As we move into 2007, our President’s theme is “Making Connections”, on the heels of the National Association of Realtors® theme of “Connecting the Dots”. Bringing people together with different interests to complete transactions is the goal of all Realtors. “I will strive to lead the members of our Board to make all the right connections in order to build our businesses, to build our Board, to build our companies and to build a strong community for Fayette County residents,” Ayers stressed. “This will not only strengthen the local economy, but all of our lives and our family values.” We have the obvious connections of Broker/Agent, Buyer/Seller, Board/Members, and many more. Some of those other connections you may not realize are affected by your local Real Estate Agents. Ayers sees the need for local Agents to build and strengthen these other connections with our community organizations, with our political leaders, with our schools and with our churches. What role does the local, state and federal government play in today’s Real Estate Market? All levels of governments affect what we do on a daily basis, from local ordinances, to state laws, to federal laws. We work diligently with all levels to protect our rights to protect resident’s rights to own private property. In addition, all levels play a key role in how we develop our land, build our houses, how we sell our houses, how we finance our houses, and how we maintain our ownership. NAR and GAR also monitor the state and national initiatives that would effect our profession, and/or affect a homeowner. What should professionalism mean to the real estate consumer? A professional REALTOR is the best in the business, one who is honest, ethical, and has the expertise and knowledge of the real estate business. To the buyer or seller, hiring a REALTOR® means hiring the best for your protection throughout the whole transaction. What should professionalism mean to a realtor? It means being honest, fair, ethical, maintaining our education, working with integrity, and just being the best that we can be for our customers. “My vision for 2007,” Ayers said, “is to build on our strengths, to grow as an organization and to ‘make connections’ within our community. Maintaining a well-respected, professional organization and greater visibility in the community will help us all grow this year. It’s in the early stages, but we have begun negotiations on property to fulfill one of the Board’s 2007 resolutions to secure the land and begin building a new office building within the next few years.” The Fayette County Board of REALTORS® is one of nearly 1,600 local boards and associations of Realtors nationwide that comprise the National Association of Realtors® . As the nation’s largest trade association, NAR is “The Voice for Real Estate,” representing more than 1300,000 members involved in all aspects of the real estate industry.
