As 2007 gets underway, the faces of leadership at the Fayette County Board of Education remain the same.

During Monday’s meeting, Terri Smith was re-elected chairman and Lee Wright retained his position as vice-chairman. The two board members have helped guide the board through contentious times, including last year’s boundary hearings. Later this year, the board is expected to discuss boundaries for the elementary school near Inman that will open in the fall of 2008.

The board also voted to set the regular board meetings for the third Monday of the month with two exceptions. In February, the board meets Feb. 12 because of the Presidents’ Day holiday on Feb. 19. The board also changed the November meeting from Nov. 19 to Nov. 12 because of the Thanksgiving holiday.

In other action, school spokesperson Melinda Berry-Dreisbach said the board voted to accept a $5,000 donation from the city of Peachtree City for playground equipment at Peachtree City Elementary School. The board agreed to the stipulation that residents of Peachtree city would also be able to use the equipment when it was not being used by the students.

The board also went into executive session for a personnel item, but took no action.
