Motorists should prepare for delays and alternate routes Tuesday in Fayetteville as traffic lights at one of the city’s major intersections get a signal makeover.

The Georgia Department of Transportation plans to interrupt traffic sporadically at the intersection of Ga. highways 85 and 314 and Jeff Davis Road between 9 a.m. and noon Tuesday, a DOT e-mail says.

That’s the busy junction across from IHOP restaurant on the city’s north side.

According to the DOT, “maintenance of the current intersection signal system ... will involve stopping traffic on all approaches at various times while modifications are made. Since the lane closures will be at random, it is advised that alternate routes be utilized for reduced delays and minimal inconvenience. G.D.O.T. maintenance crews will be on site as well as the Fayetteville Police Department for traffic control.

“We urge all motorists to exercise caution and patience while traveling through this work zone. Both personnel and equipment will be on site and extreme caution is advised,” the DOT e-mail said.
