A local Boy Scout is still seeking donations of black or navy blue duffel-type bags to present to troops in the Middle East who have been injured.

Matthew Niebes came up with the idea after learning that many of the troops have nothing to carry their personal belongings in when they become hospitalized. The color of black or navy blue is needed to meet military uniform regulations.

The bags may be new or gently used. Niebes is hoping to collect 500 bags, and he presented his first round of 100 bags to troops over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Chick-fil-A at the Peachtree Crossing shopping center has offered to give a free chicken sandwich to anyone donating a bag there. They may also be donated at he Peachtree City Library, Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, Peachtree City United Methodist Church, the Tyrone fire station, Chick-Fil-A, Clothes Less Traveled and Georgia Mortgage in Fayetteville.

“Any donations would be greatly appreciated,” Niebes said.
