Tyrone resident Drew Johnson and Peachtree City resident Michelle Baily, both exemplary students and community members, have been named the newest recipients of Chick-fil-A’s Leadership Scholarship, a national program that has awarded more than 21,000 individual scholarships to support restaurant employees seeking higher education. Johnson and Baily are the 62nd and 63rd scholarship students at the free-standing Chick-fil-A restaurant at Peachtree City, which is operated by Mike Holmes. Johnson is using the $1,000 scholarship to study business at the University of Georgia. Baily is studying education at Georgia College and State University. “Chick-fil-A’s commitment to the educational dreams of our team members has been unwavering for more than 30 years,” said Holmes. “The Leadership Scholarship is just one way Chick-fil-A rewards team members like Drew and Michelle, who are leaders at work, school and in the community.” To date, 5,099 Chick-fil-A restaurant team members in Georgia have earned over $5 million in Chick-fil-A Leadership Scholarships. Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy launched the Leadership Scholarship program in 1973, formalizing the prior education donations the company had made for many years. Chick-fil-A has committed to award $1.1 million this year in scholarships, bringing the program to $22 million by year end. The more than 21,000 past winners of Chick-fil-A Leadership Scholarships have attended over 2,138 institutions across the country and have gone on to pursue careers across the professional spectrum. Many recipients have chosen to make a career with Chick-fil-A, working at the chain’s corporate office in Atlanta or becoming franchisees to operate one of the chain’s restaurants. The chain operates nearly 1,250 restaurants in 37 states and Washington D.C. and is expected to build more than 72 restaurants this year, including 61 free-standing locations.
