Cherelle D. Crenshaw has been named as the first recipient of the Promise Place Student Community Service Award. Crenshaw, a McIntosh High School senior, was nominated by McIntosh Resource Officer Cpl. Kristine Doyle for her work with the Explorer Program 999 at McIntosh High School, as well as her work with the Spirit of McIntosh Marching Band and her activities with her church youth group.

According to Doyle, Crenshaw is the Chief of the Explorer Program 999 and as such assists with the coordination of security at football games, new student orientation and Halloween safety and treats at the after school program at Kedron Elementary. Doyle also notes that Crenshaw is a section leader in the marching band and gives lessons to younger band members and is involved in music advancement programs. She averages 8-10 hours of service to the McIntosh High School community per week through band, tutoring, church and explorer activities while maintaining a strong GPA.

Crenshaw is the daughter of Anna and Dallas Crenshaw of Peachtree City. She also loves softball, basketball and dancing and she hopes to pursue a career in music and/or veterinary medicine.

The Promise Place Student Community Service Award is given out monthly to a Fayette County high school student based on his or her volunteer work in the community. Nominations are made by Fayette County High School administrators, counselors and teachers and the winner is chosen by the board of Promise Place, the Fayette County Council on Domestic Violence. Each monthly winner is given certificates for dinner and desert donated by Partners II Pizza and Bruster's Ice Cream, and becomes eligible for a scholarship awarded at the end of the school year.
