Locals get wins in holiday tournamentsFri, 12/29/2006 - 11:20am

The McIntosh Lady Chiefs basketball team is playing some great basketball this year and Coach David Dowse is hoping to see it continue into 2007. The team is 8-2, 4-2 in the region, and they recently won the Hwy. 78 Christmas tournament. The Lady Chiefs opened with a 66-51 win over Temple with Elyse Chubb leading the way with 23 points. Erin Justice added 18 points and Olivia Brasch chipped in 14. They followed that win with a 48-40 win over Lamar County. Chubb scored 18 points and Justice added 11 in the victory. In the championship game against Villa Rica, McIntosh won 48-45. Alex Smith was the Lady Chiefs’ leading scorer with 12 points while Justice added 11 and Chubb added 10. The McIntosh boys went 2-1 in the tournament beating Bowdon 89-49, falling to Villa Rica 91-88 in overtime and beating Temple 71-57. Jeremy Lampkin scored 18 points in the win over Bowdon. Both the McIntosh boys and girls are playing in the Luella Holiday Tournament. The games started yesterday after the paper went to press. Season play starts up again next Friday with a game at Woodward Academy at 7 p.m. East Coweta’s boys and girls won the Northgate holiday tournament with both teams going undefeated. The boys beat Ola 82-47, handed Pike County a 86-63 loss and then defeated Northgate 61-50. The Lady Indians beat Ola 48-15, defeated Pike County 45-38 and then edged out Northgate 50-46 in overtime. Meghan Downes scored 12 points against Ola, 10 points against Pike County and 18 points against Northgate to lead East Coweta in scoring in the tournament. Mario Ford had 17 for the Indians against Northgate and Pike County. The Indians will open the 2007 half of their schedule with a home game against Mundy’s Mill next Friday. Games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Northgate’s Lady Vikings beat Pike County 63-44 and Ola 60-15, while the boys beat Pike County 64-51 and Ola 48-34. Stephanie Farmakis had 23 points against Pike County and 12 against Ola. Andre Morris scored 13 against Ola while Derrick Brisbane added 11. Fayette County’s boys went 1-1 in their holiday tournament play last week, losing to North Clayton 79-78 and beating Statesboro 58-49. Noel Johnson had 19 points and eight steals in the North Clayton game while Derrick Walker chipped in 17 points and Quincy Carruthers added 10. In the Statesboro game, Johnson had 18 points, Carruthers scored 13 and David Millaud added 12 points. Brandon Boykin had seven points, five assists and seven steals. The boys are playing in the Luella tournament this week and will host Banneker next Friday night. The Sandy Creek boys and girls played in a small tournament at Mary Persons last week. The boys went 2-0, beating Central Macon 72-62 in overtime and beating Mary Persons 70-51. Four players were in double digits in scoring against Central Macon; Blake Brewer with 16, Chris James and Josh Houston with 15 and Phillip Woo with 10. The Lady Patriots went 1-1, beating Greene County 55-32 and falling to Mary Persons 53-38. Sandy Creek will host Cass next Friday with games beginning at 6 p.m. Landmark Christian and Whitewater began tournament play at Ola High School yesterday, while Starr’s Mill is playing in a tournament at Alexander High School. Starr’s Mill will open the 2007 part of their season at Whitewater on Saturday at 6 p.m. Landmark will host Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy on Friday at 6 p.m. login to post comments |
