The New Georgia Encyclopedia was a months-long project involving the Georgia Humanities Council, in partnership with the University of Georgia Press, the University System of Georgia-GALILEO, the Office of the Governor of Georgia, and the Georgia Department of Technical Adult Education.

It involved dozens of historians in the individual counties who provided the history of their county, as well as provide photographs.

The information is available on the Internet, just search the New Georgia Encyclopedia. It will bring up the various subject matter available: The Arts, Business and Industry, Cities and Counties, Education, Folklife, Government and Politics, History and Archeology, Land and Resources, Literature, Media, Religion, Science and Medicine, Sports and Recreation, and Transportation.

Fayette County is not only detailed but there are a number of highlighted words that can lead you to more information on another site, such as Cecil Travis, Dr. Ferrol A. Sams Jr., 1996 Olympic Games, quilting, etc.

The New Georgia Encyclopedia provides authoritative sources of information about people, places, events, institutions, and many other topics relating to the state.

It is a boon to not only students, but those just plain curious about the state.
