Local churches announce events for New Year’s Eve, New Year’s DayTue, 12/26/2006 - 3:07pm

With the final Advent Candle extinguished last Sunday, and Christmas activities behind them, a few churches in the south metro area will usher in the year 2007 with services, singings or youth events. Some will also have services on New Year’s Day. The following have announced their New Year weekend activities. Southside Baptist and Pine Grove Baptist in Fayette County will join together for a Watch Night service on Sunday, Dec. 31, beginning at 9 p.m. The service will consist of gospel singing with a break for light finger foods, then singing in the New Year. Many talented individuals will perform. Southside Baptist is at 1332 Ga. Hwy. 92 South, a mile and a half south of the Fayetteville city limits. Bethany United Methodist Church will have a Watch Night service on Sunday, Dec. 31. For times, call the church office, 770-964-6999 or 770-964-6992. Bethany is on Rivers Road at Lee’s Lake Road in north Fayette County. Redemption Fellowship, Fayetteville, will have a New Year’s Eve Celebration Sunday, Dec. 31, beginning at 10:30 p.m. The celebration will include praise and worship, fellowship and food. The church is at 418 Highway 279 in Fayetteville. Call 770-460-1220 for directions and more information. At the Catholic Church of Saint Gabriel in Fayetteville, the Feast of the Holy Family will be celebrated New Year’s weekend. The Saturday Vigil Mass on Dec. 30 will be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. followed on Sunday morning with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass being offered at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The life teen Mass will be offered at 5 p.m. on Sunday but there will be no Mass celebrated on New Year’s Day. The Catholic Church of St. Gabriel is at 152 Antioch Road, just south of the intersection of Ga. Hwy. 92 South and Antioch Road. South Metro Ministries in Sharpsburg (Coweta County) will have a New Year’s Eve Lock-In for youth ages 11 and over Sunday, Dec. 31, from 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. Monday morning. Cost is $25 per person. The events will feature food, fun, games, 10 inflatable rides including the Mechanical Bull, Screamer Slide, Gladiator Joust, Hoop Shot and six more. Guest bands include High Flight Society, Reporting Rain, Julian Blount and Remnant Entertainment. Guest Speaker will be ESPN’s the Contender Ebo Elder. South Metro Ministries is at 3935 Ga. The New year weekend at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Sharpsburg includes a Saturday night Vigil Mass on Dec. 30 at 5 p.m., plus the regular Dec. 31 Sunday Masses at 9 a.m. and noon. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 1, New Year’s Day, at 10 a.m. Masses are celebrated at East Coweta High School on Ga. Hwy. 154 (McCollum-Sharpsburg Rd.) in Sharpsburg. In South Fulton, the Body of Christ Church International, U.S.A. will have a Watch Night service Sunday, Dec. 31, at 9 p.m. The church is at 3650 Flat Shoals Road in College Park. Christ Discipleship Ministries in Fairburn will have a New Year’s Eve Watch Night Communion Service on Sunday, Dec. 31, at 10 p.m., with a time of worship, testimonies, and prayer.
