Basketball teams ready for holiday tournaments

This week’s basketball schedule is fairly light as most teams finished their finals and went on the holiday break. A few teams played in Christmas tournaments this week and several more will play in tournaments next week.

Starr’s Mill’s girls played in the Henry County Christmas Tournament and opened with a 56-32 win over Eagle’s Landing. The Starr’s Mill boys will play in the second annual Hoops Classic at Alexander High School next Thursday.

Sandy Creek’s boys and girls opened a tournament at Mary Persons High School with wins. The Lady Patriots defeated Greene County 55-32 and the boys beat Central, Macon 72-62 in overtime.
McIntosh’s boys and girls began tournament play in the Hwy. 78 tournament at Temple High School last night after the paper went to press. Fayette County started the Pro Players Classic in Griffin last night.

East Coweta’s boys and girls and Northgate’s boys and girls will play in a tournament at Northgate through Saturday. The Lady Indians (2-9), which beat Newnan 41-36 last Friday and lost to Starr’s Mill 58-41 on Saturday, will face Pike County today at 3 p.m. and will take on Northgate tomorrow at 6 p.m. Meghan Downes scorded 17 points against Newnan and had 12 in the Starr’s Mill game. The East Coweta boys (3-5) lost to Newnan 82-63 but bounced back with a 50-40 win over Starr’s Mill. Mario Ford scored 15 against the Panthers. The boys will take on Pike County today at 4:30 p.m. and will meet Northgate tomorrow.

Whitewater and Landmark Christian School’s boys and girls will play in the Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy tournament at Ola High School next week. Our Lady of Mercy’s boys and girls will play in the Wildcat Invitational at Dave Brainerd Christian School in Chattanooga, Tenn. beginning next Wednesday.
