Peachtree City residents have been very generous during the holiday season, according to the Peachtree City Fire Department.

The department collects canned goods during its annual Santa Run, which features Santa Claus touring through city neighborhoods on a fire engine. The department also collected toys again this year, with some going toward the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign and the rest going to Embracing Military Families, a locally-based program that gives the toys to children whose parents are either deployed or are facing financial hardship.

In addition to donating numerous toys, residents also stepped up big time to donate canned goods, said Assistant Fire Chief Ed Eiswerth. The department delivered three pickup truck loads of cans to a local food bank this week, Eiswerth said.
