A man accused of kidnapping and robbing his former girlfriend in her Fayetteville home will serve five years in prison after pleading guilty to reduced charges in the case.

Mac Arthur Prayor, 36, pled guilty to one count of false imprisonment last week, said Assistant District Attorney Lura Landis. Superior Court Judge Tommy Hankinson sentenced Prayor to five years in prison followed by five years on probation, and he also required Prayor to submit to a drug evaluation and enter a drug treatment program, Landis said.

Police said Prayor kidnapped the victim from her home on Meadowbrook Court at knifepoint Oct. 23 and forced her to drive with him to buy crack cocaine. Although he took money from her, the victim managed to get away unharmed physically.

The victim supported the plea deal and felt it was important for Prayor to get the drug treatment, Landis said. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped charges of armed robbery, kidnapping and theft of a motor vehicle.

The car was later recovered, which played a role in dropping that charge, Landis noted.
