The congregation of First Presbyterian Church of Peachtree City recently shared the blessings of participation in a community-wide day of service in conjunction with the study of the book of Nehemiah in the Bible. Community Mission Day was celebrated by young and old as opportunities were provided to help those in need and be blessed in return.

During the study of “the Nehemiah Challenge,” church members brought canned goods to Sunday services and built a wall around the sanctuary to symbolize the struggles of Nehemiah as he directed the rebuilding of the wall around Jerusalem. Over 3,000 cans were distributed to area organizations who help the needy, providing a contribution to Fayette Samaritans, Fayette Youth Protection Homes, Community Welcome House, Promise Place, the New Life Center, and Teen Challenge.

These centers also received help with clean-up/fix-up and building and painting projects. Other service projects included holiday decorating at the Southwest Christian Hospice and the Hope House Children’s Respite Center.

Church members also collected used eyeglasses to be reconditioned and distributed to give the gift of sight. The Comfort Quilters team made quilts to give to abused women and children, providing a comfort ministry through their beautifully crafted work. The youth of First Presbyterian participated in all mission projects as well as supervising the packing and distribution of Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.

Community Mission projects are an ongoing part of the fellowship of First Presbyterian Church.
