Holiday tournaments to test local teamsTue, 12/19/2006 - 1:10pm

Fayette County’s boys are 5-3 and the girls are 4-4. Their game last week with Northgate was rescheduled to Jan. 6 at home beginning with the girls game at 6 p.m. The boys will play in the Pro Player Classic in Griffin tomorrow and Friday. Their opening round opponent is North Clayton tomorrow at 8:15 p.m. The boys and girls are both scheduled to play in the Luella Classic on Dec. 28 and 29. Landmark Christian School’s boys and girls will play in the Eagle’s Landing Christian School tournament, which will be held at Ola High School, beginning next Thursday. The boys (1-8) are coming off a 68-53 loss to Cross Keys, while the girls are coming off a 74-7 win over Cross Keys. Landmark led 54-0 at the half and got 18 points from Deondria Terrell, 15 points from Jo’el Christian and 12 points from Jocelyn McGarrah. McIntosh’s boys and girls will play in the Hwy. 78 Tournament at Temple High School this week. The boys (2-5) will open with a game against Bowdon at 7:30 p.m., while the girls (5-2) will play Temple at 6 p.m. In last Friday night’s games against Creekside, the boys lost 68-35 and the girls lost 43-42. Erin Justice had 16 points and Elyse Chubb added 15 points in the loss. Both teams will play in the Luella tournament beginning next Thursday. Our Lady of Mercy’s boys (5-3) and girls (4-4) both got beat by Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy last Saturday. The boys lost 67-26 and the girls fell 54-28. Both teams will head to Chattanooga, Tenn. next week for the Wildcat Invitational at Dave Brainerd Christian School. The girls will open with a game against Sale Creek at 3 p.m. next Wednesday and the boys will play Cleveland Christian at 4:30 p.m. Sandy Creek’s boys (5-3) and girls (7-1) will play in the Farmers Bank Christmas Tournament at Mary Persons High School this week. The boys, which got region wins over Cedartown (71-61) and Carrollton (70-68 in overtime), took on Central, Macon yesterday afternoon after the paper went to press. The girls split their region games over the weekend, defeating Cedartown 51-31 but losing to Carrollton 61-40. The Lady Patriots met Greene County yesterday. Starr’s Mill’s Lady Panthers (5-6) lost at Woodward Academy last Friday 44-43 and beat East Coweta on Saturday 58-41. Woodward’s girls hit buzzer beaters in the second, third and fourth quarters. Chesley Savage had 15 points in the loss and Alexis Shaffer had 14. Against East Coweta, Shaffer had 24 points and Savage scored 12. The team will stay busy this week with play in the Henry County Christmas Tournament this week. They opened the tournament with a game against Eagle’s Landing yesterday at 5:30 p.m. and will play today and tomorrow as well. The boys will play in the second annual Hoops Classic at Alexander High School Dec. 28-30. They will open with a game against Hiram next Thursday at noon. Whitewater’s boys (6-4) fell to Westlake 80-52 on Friday with Jay Bright scoring 11 points, while the girls (1-9) lost 71-37. Both teams will play in the Eagle’s Landing Christmas Tournament at Ola next week. login to post comments |
