Panthers end season in quarterfinal loss to BroncosTue, 11/22/2005 - 3:39pm
By: Michael Boylan
The Starr’s Mill Panthers hosted the Brookwood Broncos last Friday night and the winner would earn a trip to the Georgia Dome this Saturday. Though Brookwood had a 6-0 lead at the half, the game was up in the air until the fourth quarter. When all was said and done though, Brookwood would emerge victorious, allowed to continue their season, for at least one more week. The Broncos scored first and missed the extra point but Starr’s Mill would go on an eight minute drive, thanks in part to big runs from Greg Davis and Antonio Brown. The drive would stall out deep in the Brookwood red zone though as Davis and quarterback Robby Davis had some miscommunication, resulting in a fumble. Brookwood would score in the third quarter and would convert the two point conversion. They would go on two more drives in the quarter and both of them were stopped by fumbles, one recovered by Ryan Willis and the other recovered by Austin Watts. The Panthers put some points on the board of their own as Robby Davis connected with Sir Brian Roberts on a touchdown pass and Greg Davis broke several tackles, bounced outside and ran for a touchdown of his own. The Panthers missed the extra point and found themselves down 14-13. Brookwood went on another long drive resulting in a touchdown and Starr’s Mill was forced to go on a fourth and long deep in their own territory. They didn’t convert and Brookwood would score quickly afterwards to go up 28-13. The Panthers responded with a terrific drive with Roberts and Brown each making big plays. Brown would cap off the drive with a touchdown but the extra point was blocked and the ensuing on-side kick was kicked out of bounds, ending any chance of a Starr’s Mill comeback. Starr’s Mill ended the season with a record of 10-3. login to post comments |
