Teams tangle before the holiday break

Tuesday night saw several teams square off against region opponents and many of the games saw the teams split.

Starr’s Mill’s boys and girls split with Creekside. The Lady Panthers (4-5) got their second win in a row as they defeated the Lady Seminoles 45-42. They defeated Eagle’s Landing 59-35 on Saturday. Marie Jubb and Chesley Savage each had nine points against Eagle’s Landing and Alexis Shaffer and Catherine Sanders each scored 10 against Creekside. The Lady Panthers never trailed in either game and every member of the team scored against Eagle’s Landing.

The boys (1-8) lost to the Seminoles 76-44. Mark Conrad scored eight points for the Panthers and Sam Martin added seven. The Panthers did get a win over Eagle’s Landing 45-42 on Saturday. Colin Elias scored 14 points and Eric Pitts added nine points.

Starr’s Mill will host Woodward Academy on Friday and East Coweta on Saturday. Friday’s games start at 7 p.m. and Saturday’s games start at 6 p.m.

East Coweta’s boys and girls both got swept at Tri-Cities on Tuesday but both teams got wins at Hiram last Friday before getting swept by Carrollton on Saturday. The girls (1-7) beat Hiram 50-39 with LaBrittany Stokes scoring 19 points and Meghan Downes scoring 10. They fell to Carrollton 74-24 and lost a close region game with Tri-Cities 47-46. Downes scored 12 in the game. On the boy’s side, the Indians (2-3) beat Hiram 75-72, lost to Carrollton 84-70 and lost to Tri-Cities 86-81. Mario Ford scored 29 points in the Tri-Cities game and Kendrick Hughley Brown had 15 points against Hiram.

East Coweta plays at Newnan tonight at 7 p.m. and plays at Starr’s Mill tomorrow at 6 p.m.
Sandy Creek got their region schedule underway on Tuesday with a split with Cartersville. The boys (3-3) lost 93-87 and the girls won 46-39. Lynsey Paschal scored 21 points and had double digit rebounds yet again and Jenna Jackson added 11 points.

Sandy Creek has two more region games this weekend. They will host Cedartown tonight with games beginning at 7 p.m. and will travel to take on Carrollton tomorrow with games beginning at 3 p.m.

Whitewater hosted Landmark Christian on Tuesday and also split. The Lady Wildcats (1-7) lost to the Lady War Eagles (9-1) 61-37. Landmark built a 32-11 lead at the half and kept Whitewater at a distance the rest of the way. Deondria Terrell scored 15 points for Landmark, while Diamond Hunnicutt added 14, Tiffany Hall added 12 and Christian Hunnicutt added 11.

The boys game was closer, at least in the first half, but Whitewater pulled away from a 33-30 halftime lead over Landmark (2-6) and won 65-50. Stephen Sargent scored 10 points and had 15 rebounds in the win for the Wildcats (6-3), while Jay Bright added 13 points and Zach Scurry added 11.

Whitewater will play at Westlake tonight with games starting at 7 p.m. Landmark will play at Cross Keys tomorrow with games starting at 2:30 p.m.

McIntosh and Our Lady of Mercy were off on Tuesday. McIntosh will host Creekside tonight with games starting at 6 p.m. and Our Lady of Mercy will play at Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy tomorrow with games starting at 6 p.m. as well.
