A combined anniversary celebration and awards banquet was recently hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City. Several past club presidents attended the event, including Hollis Harris, the club’s first president in 1971. Mick Maguire, club historian and Georgia District Governor-Elect, gave a brief history of the club’s significant accomplishments, including sponsorship of six new Kiwanis Clubs, two Key Clubs, one Builders Club and a K-Kids Club. The club began in 1971 with 25 charter members, two of which are still active in the club. Membership is now nearing the 100 mark. Members have worked an estimated 525,000 service hours over the past 35 years and distributed approximately $825,000 back to the local community and international arena through donations to charitable organizations and sponsoring community service projects. The keynote speaker for the event was Georgia Kiwanis Governor Dewey Smith. From left are Joe Frazar - President Elect, Dewey Smith, Mick Maguire, and Tom Beckham - Club President.
