A movement is afoot to pay tribute to a well-respected youth tennis pro who died in a car crash in June.

Beth Choate Wortmann, 35, was once a part-time pro at the Peachtree City Tennis Center. She died while on her way to an out-of-town tournament to “warm up” the kids, said Peachtree City resident Becky Timmis.

In Wortmann’s memory, a group of citizens plans to erect a plaque at the tennis center.

Timmis got permission from the City Council to coordinate details of the memorial with city and tennis center staff. The funding will come entirely from donations but council permission was needed to place the memorial at the city-owned tennis center.

City Manager Bernie McMullen said the city engineer and tennis center manager David Gary could work out details such as the location of the memorial.
