What a difference a week makes.

Last Monday, Senoia residents were up in arms over the design for the new library in the city's park and looking for other architects to submit proposals.

But this week, the new design got big compliments from the city's Historic Preservation Committee and a recommendation for the City Council to approve the design at its January 8 meeting.

Architect Brian Haun told the commission that he had taken the residents' concerns seriously and changed the pitch of the roof to make the building look more like a historic train depot. He also changed the number and shape of the windows. The windows are now nine over nine, which is an architectural element found in many of the historic homes in Senoia.

The commission also asked Haun to focus on dark shingles for the roof and to research a more historical brick for the exterior of the building. Another change will be in the railing that is on the front of the structure. Instead of wire or wood, commission member Paul Price suggested something that would resemble wrought iron to further give the building a historic flavor.

The commission approved the design by a 4-0 vote with the conditions that all the changes be implemented.

"You guys have done a really great job," said Price.

The $500,000 library is being funded and built by Coweta County.
