Newnan Theatre Company is calling out loud for actors and singers to audition for roles in “Tambourines to Glory,” a musical comedy with original and traditional hymns.

The show by Langston Hughes dramatizes the age old problem of good versus evil. Two out-of-work, out-of-luck women decide to open their own church on the street corner in order to pass the “collection tambourine.” It starts out as a simple con, but becomes so much more, especially once the Devil gets involved. Of course, God triumphs in the end.

Laurel Alford, NTC director and board president, says a huge cast is needed for the show. “This will give a lot of people the opportunity to share their talents while bringing a joyful message to the community,” she added.

Open auditions will be held Monday, Dec. 18 and Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Black Box at the theatre. Come prepared to read from the script and have a song prepared. An accompanist will be provided or you’re welcome to sing without music, if you prefer.

Auditions by appointment are also available. Call Alford at 678-677-1510 between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. to set up private auditions during the rest of the week.

“Tambourines to Glory” will run the first three weekends of February as part of the celebration of Black History Month. Newnan Theatre Company, voted Best Theatre in the Southern Arc by readers of Lifestyles Magazine, is located at 24 First Avenue in Newnan.
