With holiday break and tournaments looming, teams looking for consistent play and effort

On a cold weekend, people were glad to be indoors watching high school basketball and the results for local teams were mixed.

It wasn’t a great weekend for Fayette County’s boys or girls as they were both swept by Westlake and Parkview. The boys lost a region match to Westlake 83-71 with sophomore Noel Johnson leading the Tigers in scoring with 24 points. The Lady Tigers lost to Westlake 48-41 with Tessah Holt scoring 14 points for Fayette County. Against Parkview, the boys (5-3) lost 63-57 and the girls (4-3) lost 66-36.

McIntosh traveled down the road to face Starr’s Mill on Friday and swept the boys and girls teams. The Lady Chiefs (5-1) won 48-31 over the Lady Panthers (2-5) behind 15 points from Erin Justice and 11 points from Morgann Mitchell. The boys (2-4) won 48-36 with Jeremy Lampkin scoring 14 points and Alex Schlicht adding 11. Starr’s Mill (1-7) was led by 15 points from Paul Vogel.
Starr’s Mill hosted Creekside last night and McIntosh will host Creekside on Friday. Starr’s Mill will host Woodward Academy on Friday and East Coweta on Saturday.

Whitewater had two region games last weekend. The boys and girls both lost to Creekside and split with Woodward Academy. The Lady Wildcats (1-7) lost to Creekside 44-38 with Cortney Walker scoring 12 points. On Saturday, they fell to Woodward Academy 69-18. The boys lost to Creekside on Friday 56-53 with Grant Mannion scoring 19 points and Jay Bright adding 12. On Saturday, the Wildcats (5-3) defeated the War Eagles 74-68 in overtime. Mannion scored 31 points, Bright added 15 and Stephen Sargent had 10 points and 15 rebounds.

Whitewater hosted Landmark Christian last night and will play at Westlake on Friday.
Landmark’s Lady War Eagles improved to 8-1 with wins over Greenforest Christian and Providence Christian over the weekend. Landmark led Greenforest 22-2 after one quarter and won 72-31. Christian Hunnicutt had 24 points and eight rebounds, while Tiffany hall added 17 points and five steals. Diamond Hunnicutt had 16 points and nine rebounds and Jo’el Christian added 11 points and nine rebounds. On Saturday, they beat Providence Christian 62-37. Deondria Terrell had 20 points and six rebounds, while Christian Hunnicutt added 18 points, eight rebounds, three steals and three assists. Hall added 10 points, eight assists and four steals. The boys lost to Providence Christian 69-58.
Landmark played at Whitewater last night and will play at Cross Keys on Saturday.

Our Lady of Mercy’s boys and girls swept Mt. Paran and Fellowship Christian. The girls (4-3) won 42-20 over Mt. Paran with Alex Miles scoring 12 points and pulling in 10 rebounds, while Kelly Tolcher added 10 points and seven rebounds. They defeated Fellowship Christian 32-31 with Hannah Allen hitting the winning free throw after being fouled on a shot at the buzzer.

The boys (5-2) beat Mt. Paran 38-33 with Richie Obiora scoring 10 points and then beat Fellowship Christian 68-53.

Our Lady of Mercy will play at Southwest Atlanta Christian on Saturday.

Sandy Creek’s boys and girls were off over the weekend. The girls played at Cartersville last night while the boys hosted Westlake. They will both play at Cedartown on Friday and Carrollton on Saturday.
