Parade is newest tradition

For years, Tyrone parade-lovers have only had the Founders’ Day parade to watch.

But this year, the city will have its first Christmas parade. The parade is sponsored by United Community Bank, and kicks off next Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Handley Park.

According to Parade Director, Stephen Ball, “ We want everyone attending the Parade to bring a flashlight. Candles are too dangerous, but flashlights will serve as a great alternative for forming a landing strip for Santa’s Sleigh. Since it is a night parade the flashlights can be used to help illuminate the beautiful floats from Cline Float Company.

Town councilman Grace Caldwell said there will be at least 13 floats from the company and several more from local churches.

Former Police Chief Johnny will serve as grand marshal and Brittany Swann, the reigning Miss Georgia U.S.A. will be a featured guest.

“This event promises lots of fun for all ages and if successful, the next year’s event will be even bigger. I’d like to see this parade become the biggest Christmas parade for a small town in the southeast. I want Tyrone citizens to be proud of the event. Come on out with your friends and let’s light up one mile of runway for Santa,” said Ball.
