Teams tangle on Tuesday night, try to tack wins on to record

Tuesday night is always a great night for basketball and this Tuesday was no exception. Perhaps the best games, and the most significant, were the matches between McIntosh and Whitewater.

The Lady Chiefs (4-1) defeated the Lady Wildcats (1-5) 44-38. McIntosh was led by 15 points from Erin Justice and 14 points from Elyse Chubb, while Whitewater got 12 points from Cortney Walker. In the boys game, the Chiefs (1-4) once again bult a lead by the half, this time the lead was eight points, but Whitewater (4-2) scrapped their way back and the two teams exchanged the lead for much of the fourth quarter. The Chiefs’ KC Erickson hit a jumper with 10 seconds remaining to give McIntosh a one point lead. The Wildcats got the ball to Zach Scurry for a last second shot, which went in, for the win. Scurry finished with 15 points and six rebounds, while Vaughn Page had 13 points for the Chiefs.

McIntosh will play at Starr’s Mill tonight and Whitewater will host Creekside tonight and play at Woodward Academy tomorrow.

Northgate’s boys and girls took on Westlake on Tuesday and lost. The Lady Vikings lost 71-49 and the boys lost 48-31. Northgate will host Fayette County on Tuesday. Fayette County swept Woodward Academy on Tuesday. The Tigers (5-1) won 90-57 with Addison Flynn scoring 17 points, David Millaud scoring 16 points and pulling in 10 rebounds and Noel Johnson adding 14 points, six rebounds and six assists. The Lady Tigers won 40-34 with Tessah Holt leading the way with 13 points. Fayette County will play at Westlake tonight and Parkview tomorrow.

East Coweta’s boys and girls got swept by Morrow. The Lady Indians (0-6) lost 68-20 and the boys (1-2) lost 92-42. East Coweta will host Hiram tonight and Carrollton tomorrow.

Landmark Christian’s boys and girls swept Mt. Pisgah. The boys (2-4) won 53-46 with Matt Thornton scoring 17 points and Levi Throckmorton adding 10. The girls won 65-7. They led 33-0 at the half. Christian Hunnicutt scored 16 points, her sister, Diamond, added 10 points and 14 rebounds and Deondria Terrell added 13 points and six rebounds. Landmark Christian will host Greenforest Christian tonight and Providence Christian tomorrow.

Sandy Creek’s boys and girls swept Chapel Hill on Tuesday. The Lady Patriots (5-0) won 72-33. Jenna Jackson scored 21 points, had seven steals and pulled in five rebounds. Lynsey Paschal scored 17 points, had seven rebounds and six steals. The boys won as well but the final score and stats were not called in or reported before the paper went to press.

The girls are scheduled to play at Cartersville on Tuesday while the boys will host Westlake.
