Tyrone Councilman Mike Smola was blasted Thursday night during the town’s council meeting by a former part-time employee of the town.

Don Rehwaldt told the Town Council during the public comment portion of the meeting that he enjoyed living in the town, and had gotten involved with the police department on a part-time basis.

Rehwaldt assisted the department in processing paperwork and taking fines and enjoyed his employment, but decided it was time to retire.

“I retired, I wasn’t asked to resign,” he said.
He told the police department that he would be willing to work an additional three months, until the department could find a replacement. But Rehwaldt said he was stunned when he came across an email from Smola.

“He said that I had continued to subvert the council and had been knocking them down for a year,” Rehwaldt said.

Rehwaldt said that his work had never been in question and that he assumed the attack was because he was involved in the Tyrone Neighborhood Alliance.

“The alliance is people waking up,” he said.
Rehwaldt also thought it was unprofessional for Smola to attack a town employee.

Smola could not be reached for comment at presstime.
