PTC library offers self check-outThu, 12/07/2006 - 4:36pm
By: John Munford
The Peachtree City Library now has a kiosk where patrons can check out their own books. Not only does this help when lines at the circulation desk get long, but the younger patrons think it’s cool, said Library Manager Jill Prouty. The setup, located at the far left end of the circulation desk, is actually a computer with a barcode scanner attached. Patrons just scan their library card and follow instructions on the screen. When completed, a receipt of the transaction is printed out ... just as if a live librarian had performed the work. There is one catch, though. The system won’t work for patrons with audio or visual materials; they will have to check out as usual with a library staff member. login to post comments |
