Julie Mae Tye Engram, 90, Fairburn, died Nov. 28, 2006. She was born July 16, 1916 in Calhoun, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband Irby Dell Engram, whom she married in 1937. He died in 1983. She was one of seven children born to Dr. Oscar and Elizabeth Tye. She spent her childhood in Eidson, Ga. She had been a four-year starter for the Edison High School girls' basketball team where she had been the leading scorer. She attended Wesleyan and Andrew College. She taught over 20 years, the last seven in Fayette County. She was an Atlanta Hawks fan, who honored her at center court for having held season tickets longer than any other fan in the history of its NBA franchise. Services were at the First United Methodist Church, Fairburn, with the Rev. Dr. Jay Hodges, the Rev. Vicki Smith, and the Rev. Tom Dews officiating. Interment was at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Ft. Gaines, Ga. Survivors include children Irby Dell Engram Jr., Rabun County, whose late wife, Beverly, was a state senator, Tye Engram, Fayette County, and Julie Parmer, Atlanta; grandchildren, Leigh Ann, David, and Derek; and great-grandchildren, Megan, Andrew, Skyler, and Hunter. Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 5 Washington St., Fairburn, GA 30213. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.
