• Air Force 2nd Lt. Michael T. Handy has graduated from Undergraduate Pilot Training at Vance Air Force Base, Enid, Okla. The student completed 190 flying hours in either the T-37, T-38, or T-1A aircraft, 62 flight simulator hours, 342 academic hours, and 105 officer training hours, weather training for flight plans, and fundamentals of aircraft handling, instrumentation, formation, and night flying. At the end of training, the officer received an aeronautical rating of pilot in the Air Force, competent and qualified to perform the duties and responsibilities thereof. Handy's next assignment will be at Luke Air Force Base, Phoenix, Ariz. He will be flying the F-16 Aircraft. He is the son of Douglas and Deborah Handy of Peachtree City, Ga. The lieutenant graduated in the year 2000 from McIntosh High School, Peachtree City, and received a bachelor's degree in 2004 from the University of Georgia, Athens.

• Army Pfc. David Firschke has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman. He is the son of Tatjana and stepson of Corey Rhodes of Fayetteville, Ga. and a 2006 graduate of Fayette County High School, Fayetteville.

Walter Samuel Norman III, of Fayetteville, Ga., will graduate from the University of West Georgia on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. in Carrollton, Georgia. Norman attended Fayetteville Elementary School, Fayette County Middle School, Fayette County High School and graduated from Pace Christian School. During his time at West Georgia, Norman served as a ROW Hall Homecoming representative, attended Campus Outreach Beach Project, went to Mozambique, Africa through the Baptist Student Union Association and participated in many other organizations earning achievements throughout his tenure. He had earned a bachelor of science degree in physical education and health and is actively seeking a teaching position.
