McIntosh swims at Cobb, Starr's Mill swims at Brenau

The McIntosh High School Swim Team opened the 2006-2007 season at the Cobb Relays in Marietta, finishing 11th overall. The Chiefs finished in the top five in three events, two for the women and one in the mixed medley.

The women placed 10th of the 17 schools at the meet. Their best event was a third-place finish in the 200-butterfly with seniors Nicole Roddenberry and Hannah Williams, junior Keaton Hannon and sophomore Sarah Trapaga.

Roddenberry, Williams, Hannon and junior Rose Tortora also finished fourth in the 400-medley.
The best finish for the men was a sixth-place effort in the 200-butterfly with senior Ryan Morton, sophomores Alex Harmon and Adam Otaki, and freshman Jim Roddenberry.

The men finished 11th for the meet.
In the mixed 200-medley, the team of Roddenberry, Hannon, Harmon and sophomore Josh Day swam to a fourth-place finish.

The Chiefs are coached again this year by Tommy Stockdale. Next on the schedule are two events in one week at Woodward Academy and the Whitewater Invitational in Clayton County.

The Starr’s Mill Panther swim team opened their season last Saturday (Nov. 18) at the Brenau Invitational with a win for the ladies and runner up for the men out of 13 teams.

The Lady Panthers won all three relays, earning state cuts in all of them. In addition, the Panthers took five individual events including Senior Lauren Cartwright in the 500 free and the 200 I.M., sophomore Katie Haycraft 200 free, Sophmore Lauren Scott 100 fly and Sophmore Bailey Cartwright in the 100 backstroke.

The Starr’s Mill men won the 200 free relay in a state qualifyng time of 1:38.08 and included Senior Alex Tovani, Freshman David Wright, Freshman Eric Presley, and Junior Matt Boyle. Other top five finishes for the men were Boyle, third in the 200 I.M., Wright, second in the 50 and 100 free and as a part of the 200 medley team with Austin Presley, Ellison, Boyle and Tovani) and the 400 free relay team with Boyle, and Chris Hall.
