Christmas Tour of Homes 1

The Fayetteville First United Methodist Church is once again sponsoring a Christmas Tour of Homes this Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 2 and 3. The homes will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Tickets are $15 and the proceeds will go the church's transportation fund.

There will be a silent auction at the Family Life Center at the church. If you wish to participate only in the silent auction, there is no charge.

Tickets can be purchased either at the Family Life Center or at any one of the homes. A map is located on the back of each ticket showing the location of each home.

Items available for bid at the Sealed Bid Auction include "theme" baskets, autographed sports collectable from college and professional teams, and gift certificates galore from dining, spa, jewelry, clothing, and specialty stores in the area.

Autographed copies of books by Dr. Ferrol A. Sams Jr. are also offered.

The Silent Auction Bid will be held at the church during the tour, and winners will be notified Sunday evening. Items can be picked up on Monday, Dec. 4th, from noon to 8 p.m. at the church Family Life Center.

Among the homes on the tour, the recently renovated Travis House, at 255 S. Glynn Street. This 1893 house is now home for a group of attorneys and they have taken meticulous effort to preserve a part of Fayetteville's heritage.

From it's original hardwood floors, windows, ceilings and five-tiled fireplaces, every detail of the renovation was well-planned.

The home of Frank and Thelma Hodson, located at 150 Hill Avenue in Woolsey, is a passion turned professional for Thelma Hodson. A retired interior

decorator, she has been used to decorating other people's home for Christmas. Unique things about this house keep its style undefined. There are unusual and beautiful handcrafted cabinets in the Country French style kitchen and in the bathroom.

The red guest room has an oversized old stagecoach cupboard. Your trip to Woolsey may provide the inspiration needed to get you started on your holiday decorating.

A freshly-cut Christmas tree at the home of Dan and Karen Aiken has been personally selected in the North Carolina mountains was lovingly brought home to 290 Iverness Shores Drive.

From the entry, much of the main floor can be seen with its many windows and vaulted ceilings. A sunken living room looks out over the covered deck.

A unique feature of this house is the separate side porch entrance leading into a mud room with cabinets fro each family member.

Visitors to Mike and Terri Younker's lakefront home on Whitewater Creek will be well received for this holiday season. Located at 135 Pebble Beach Drive, you will be entertained with Christmas music being played on the baby grand piano in the music room. Pale hardwood floors, deep tray ceilings, and decorative light fixtures are certainly features to admire. A formal elegance dominates the main floor, but the second level has unexpected colorful and chic bedrooms for the young girls in the family.

The room at the back of the house is decorated for the Season and looks out over Whitewater Creek. Don't sit down here, or you'll want to spend the rest of the afternoon in that very spot.

In the north end of the county, the home of Brenda and Dick McMahon's home is a veritable festival of trees. Located at 135 Ashley Forest Drive, this lovely home is decorated without and within.

Adding decorative trees each year, Brenda is now up to 38 of them, each with a different theme.

The McMahon house is full of warmth and energy coming from decorative wall murals as well as a potpourri of paintings and artsy treasures throughout the house. Like the trees, the rooms seem to have a different theme. Expect to see a Victorian bedroom with a display of antique dolls, a black and white bedroom with toile accents, and a purple-lavender bedroom.

Because Dick enjoys golfing and fishing, there is even a themed sitting room from him.

Have fun exploring this home and finding your favorite "most unusual" tree.
