Piribek earns eagle rank

John Piribek

John Thomas Piribek, a resident of Peachtree City and a 2006 graduate of McIntosh High School, was awarded Scouting’s highest award of Eagle Scout. The ceremony was held earlier this year at Peachtree City United Methodist Church.

Participating in the ceremony were Reverend Chuck Hodges, Reverend Tom Roan, former Scoutmasters Ty Shepherd, Chip Beard, Assistant Scoutmaster Dave Niebes, and members of Troop 309.

Piribek started scouting as a Tiger Cub with Pack 75 in 1993, and completed his Scouting with Troop 309. The troop is led by Scoutmaster Harris Gant and sponsored by the American Legion Post 105 of Fayetteville, Ga.

To earn the Eagle Award, he earned 23 merit badges and completed a community service project.

For his service project, he constructed a mail distribution center for use in the Peachtree City United Methodist Church.

He is the recipient of the God and Church Award, the Arrow of Light and a Member of the Order of Arrow. In 2002, he attended the Sea Base High Adventure camp in the Florida Keys, and in 2003 he participated in a 12 day hiking trip at the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico.

He was a three-year letterman in McIntosh’s basketball program and was twice-named Student Athlete of the Week.

He is currently a freshman at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va.

He is a member of the United States Marine Corp ROTC program and playing varsity basketball for VMI.

Piribek is a member of the Peachtree City United Methodist Church. He is the son of Susan and John Piribek of Peachtree City, Ga.
