Teacher Receives Bright Ideas Grant

One Fayetteville teacher’s bright idea for helping students learn math has landed her a large reward.

Jane Hannon, instructional support teacher at Hood Avenue Primary and Fayetteville Intermediate, is the recipient of a $1,500 Bright Ideas, Energizing Innovative Lessons grant from the EMC Coweta Fayette Trust.

Hannon's innovative project involves using math-related literature as a vehicle to show that math is not a new idea. Literature is used to teach critical math vocabulary, build on prior knowledge, experience authentic use and launch student process skills. This project benefits students by increasing their appreciation for and understanding of math.
