The Booth Middle School wrestling team opened the season last Thursday versus Callaway Middle School. After a back and forth match the Warriors suffered the loss at the hands of the Cavaliers 45 – 54.

Coach Mark Ruck said before the match that he was anxious to get the team into action to get a read on his young team. Last season his team was dominated by eighth graders who are now wrestling at McIntosh High School.

Jack Harrison, 75 lbs started Booth off with a close win by points 12-9. Then after forfeit wins by Braden Brettin (80 lbs), Mitch Beardon (85) and Jackson MacFarland (90), Scott Allen, 95 lbs launched the Warriors with an exciting victory by pin deep in the third period.
Matt Natasi (100) and Harrison Brooks (105) then followed with quick pins leading Booth to a 39-0 lead.

Callaway came back strong in the upper weights with their strongest wrestlers. Callaway wrestlers took victories by pins over Benji Eulenfield (110), Garrison Dean (115) and David James (120). Nathan Reeves (127), Alex Scheumann (137) and Will Char (147) also suffered losses and Callaway closed the score to 39-36 in favor of Booth.

Clay Stille (157) increased Booth’s lead to 45-36 by having the quickest pint of the night at 22 seconds in the first period. Unfortunately, that ended Booth’s scoring for the night. Seth Sitzman (167), Easton Stronach (185) and Patrick Brown (Heavyweight) all suffered close losses.

“I knew that we would build an early lead and that Callaway would be tough in the upper weight classes,” said Ruck after the match. “Overall I am happy to get on the mat and to start building up the experience of the team. We have a lot of work to get done.”
