• Peachtree City resident and McIntosh graduate Nicole Degner finished 14th to earn All-American status and lead the Berry women's cross country team to a 22nd place finish at the NAIA National Championship meet. Degner ran a time of 18:24 to earn her first All-American Award for cross country. The Vikings showed marked improvement over the season. Improving from unranked in the Preseason NAIA National Rankings to finishing 22nd in the country. • Peachtree City resident Tom Dunn recently showed off his Falcons knowledge and won airfare, tickets and more from the Falcon’s for being the “smartest fan.” The contest started with a question on the AJC website each day. From there, they took the folks with the most correct answers and chose the semi-finalists. At the semi-finals, the players were divided into groups of three Each group was given several questions with multiple answers to each question (example: name the players on the current Falcons roster who attended SEC schools) Each member of the group took turns giving one answer at a time. When a contestant gave an incorrect answer or repeated a correct answer, he or she was out. When two members of a group were out, the remaining member could give up to two bonus answers. Each correct answer counted one point. At the end of the semi-final round for all three groups, the group winner with the highest score (Dunn) was automatically in the finals. Then the next three group winners answered a question with one answer written down to determine the other finalist and the two alternates (in case one of the two finalists did not show up for the finals) At the finals, the finaliists were given four questions with a single correct answer for each. Before the questions, they were given the four categories and assigned a value of 1, 3, 5 or 7 points to each category. Each point value could only be used once. The categories were: Players' Alma Maters, Rankin Smith, Former Coaches, and Player Awards. Dunn and his opponent both answered the first two questions correctly. Dunn correctly answered the last two questions and the other finalist did not. The answers were: California State Champions and Pat Sullivan, Mike Rozier and Ty Detmer. login to post comments |
