With 52 sponsors, 170 shooters and 15 volunteers, The Joseph Sams School Sporting Clay Tournament hosts, Wayne Bylsma, Allen Harp, and Brent Scarbrough, gathered in Gay, Ga, on Oct. 13 for a morning of shooting sporting clays for a cause. The shoot lasted about three hours and raised more than $50,000 for The Joseph Sams School. “The success of this years sporting clay tournament was based solely on the support from caring individuals from the entire metropolitan Atlanta area. We had over 170 participants that traveled from all around Atlanta and the surrounding counties to sponsor this worthwhile cause. How appropriate since The Joseph Sams School has been the pioneer and leader in cognitive and developmental education for all of metro-Atlanta and the southside,” said Allen Harp, VP, Sunbelt Structures, Inc. Event participants received a waxed gun case, a tee-shirt and a chance to win a Remington Premier Over/Under Shotgun. After the shoot, tournament contestants shared a home cooked barbeque ribs lunch with each other and some of the parents, staff and students from The Joseph Sams School. First, second and thirrd place winners received a framed set of handprints, each uniquely made by the students at The Joseph Sams School. Scoring 342 out of 400, Heritage Bank’s team won first place in the tournament. “The Joseph Sams School plays a vital role in this region for the quality development of our special needs kids. All aspects of their Sporting Clay Tournament, including the facility, the participants and especially the cookout with the staff members and kids was just great and we were pleased to have been involved in the event,” said Jack Bowdoin, executive vice president, Heritage Bank. As a not-for-profit school, The Joseph Sams School relies heavily on its generous donors and community support. The Joseph Sams School is an accredited, private, non-profit organization located in Fayetteville, Ga. The school serves children who have mild to severe cognitive, physical or diagnosed developmental disabilities from birth through high school.
