This year’s Main Street commemorative ornament is the city’s gazebo known as Jack Day Park located at Stonewall Village. In the background of the ornament is the city’s mural painted by local artists Patsy and Ed Gullett of Gullett Designs.

Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Clifton deeded 2.085 acres to the city on Nov. 27, 1985 which included the gazebo and fountain areas. In 1987, a private company named Rotomco purchased the property where the County Complex is located and also wanted the Jack Day Park property. In February 1988, Rotomco and the City of Fayetteville agreed upon a land deal that gave the gazebo area and the parking spaces around it back to the city. The city had the gazebo built later that year.

The mural on the corner of Ga. Highway 54 West and Ga. Highway 85 South enhances the Main Street area by showcasing some of Fayette County’s historical sites. The City of Fayetteville asked Patsy and Ed Gullett to design and paint the mural in 1990. As the first focal point on the square, they were happy to oblige.

“The mural is a nice downtown piece that everyone identifies with,” states Patsy Gullett. “It’s a pictorial sign that says ‘Welcome to Fayetteville’.”

A limited quantity of past ornaments are available for purchase and include: city hall, the courthouse, the 1855 Holliday-Dorsey-Fife House Museum, the 1906 Hollingsworth House, the 1902 train depot, a city collage, the 1820s Starr’s Mill and the 1800s Burks Hotel. Ornaments can be purchased for $12 each in the Historic Train Depot & Welcome Center Main Street office at 250 Lanier Avenue East or at City Hall located at 240 Glynn Street South.
