The Coweta County Courthouse Citizens Committee is now accepting applications from local non-profit organizations if they desire to be considered to relocate to the historic Courthouse in downtown Newnan.

The Citizens Committee was formed by the Coweta County Commissioners and consists of members appointed by the Commission, the Newnan City Council, and the Downtown Development Authority. The Committee will make recommendations to both the City Council and the Coweta County Commission on the reuse of the Courthouse after court operations are moved to the new Coweta County Justice Center, which is scheduled to open in March 2006.

Non-profit organizations wishing to obtain an application to fill out and then submit to the committee should contact Kristi Vining, the city’s Public Information Officer, at 770-254-2358 or by email at kvining@cityofnewnan.org or contact Patricia Palmer, the county’s Public Information Officer, at 770-254-2603 or by email at ppalmer@coweta.ga.us. An application can be mailed, faxed, or emailed to each requesting party or picked up at Newnan City Hall or the County Administration Building.

Applications will be due back to Mark Mitchell, Chairman of the Committee, by Friday, December 2.

“The Committee has been working diligently for the past several months in order to make appropriate and fair recommendations to the governing bodies. The committee seriously considers every suggestion and comment made to the members. The courthouse is such a wonderful and historic part of our city and county, and the committee wants to make sure it will continue to be used to its fullest potential and that the groups and entities that utilize it will be compatible,” said Mitchell.
