Corporate aircraft taking interest in Falcon Field

Peachtree City’s Falcon Field is attracting more interest from corporate fleets, but there’s precious little room available at the airport for the larger planes ... at least for now.

The airport recently got a few more inquiries and were referred to private hangar owners who might have large enough facilities to handle the bigger aircraft, Airport Manager John Crosby said Wednesday night at a meeting of the city’s Airport Authority.

In the past two years, the authority has purchased two large tracts adjacent to the airport for further development of hangar space and associated infrastructure, but there is not yet any funding for developing those areas.

“We’ve got to get that land ready,” said Airport Authority Chairman Jerry Cobb.

One of the more significant attractions to Falcon Field, beyond its proximity to Atlanta, is the on-field presence of Aircraft Spruce, a nationally-known parts supplier.

In other business, Crosby reported that several airport employees attended a recent convention in Orlando, and the airport is getting better name recognition. Last year at the same convention, a significant number of pilots confused “Peachtree City-Falcon Field” with Peachtree DeKalb airport, Crosby said, adding that there were far fewer such confused pilots this year.

Crosby also reported that he is still waiting to get one of the appraisals of property the airport needs to acquire so the path of the planned TDK Boulevard Extension can be re-routed around the airport’s runway safety area.

One of the appraisers has been tied up in Cobb County Court and has been unable to produce one of the appraisals, though it has been promised by the end of this week, Crosby added.
