There were four Fayette area teams in the state football playoffs last Friday and now there are two. Starr’s Mill and Landmark Christian have both made it to the second round, while Whitewater and Sandy Creek were eliminated. The Panthers faced Ware County on the road and won big, 37-6. They compiled 328 yards of offense, scoring three touchdowns off passes and two touchdowns on the ground. Quarterback Robby Davis threw for two touchdowns and ran for 84 yards and a touchdown, while Brandon Witta threw a touchdown pass off of a halfback pass, had three catches for 66 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 54 yards. Others scoring for the Panthers were Greg Davis, Manny Alvarez and Eric Pitts. While the offense looked great, the defense played outstanding as well, forcing six turnovers. Parker duPont had two interceptions in the game and Branden Lewis and Matt Sweat each added one. Starr’s Mill (8-3) will now take on Baldwin (10-1) in Milledgeville on Friday. Landmark Christian also put a lot of points on the board last Friday but they gave up a lot of points as well. The War Eagles erased memories of last year’s first round elimination by handing Social Circle a 56-49 loss. Quarterback Matt Moody led the team in rushing with 137 yards and three touchdowns, while running back Brian Lee rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Moody also threw for 184 yards and two touchdowns. Jimmy Eden had four catches for 108 yards and a touchdown and Matt Thornton had five catches for 76 yards and a touchdown. Eden also had six tackles and one interception. Blake Wyatt led the team with 12 tackles, while Trey Strickland added 11 and also had a a forced fumble and fumble recovery. The War Eagles (9-2) will get another home game this week. They will host the Warren County Screaming Devils (7-4) on Friday. Warren County has won three games in a row. Things didn’t go as well for Whitewater or Sandy Creek, though things looked up for both teams at different times during their games. The Wildcats (7-4) had a lead in their game but the Pirates tied it up 20-20 and then went on a winning drive in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Brunswick won the game 23-20. Scoring for the Wildcats were Jay Bright, Tavoris Dixon and kicker Jordan Cooper. Sandy Creek (7-4) recovered a Falcon fumble in the opening seconds and Josh Williams scored five plays later. Flowery Branch then scored 39 points before the half and six more in the second half. The final score was 45-14. login to post comments |
