Tyrone gets update on EPD violationsMon, 11/20/2006 - 9:55am
By: John Thompson
A citizen’s action has helped spur the EPD’s actions against a Tyrone manufacturing company. For the last two months, James Norton has implored the town’s leaders to do something about the dust problem emanating from Georgia Masonry in the town’s industrial park. In October, EPD program manager Brian Boutelle paid a visit to the facility and did find excess dust coming from the facility. During Thursday night’s Town Council meeting, Town Manager Barry Amos said the main problem was the unpaved area around the facility and not the actual manufacturing process. Amos told the council the company had agreed to pave some of the gravel parking lot, along with increasing the frequency of the sweeping of the yard and also making sure the ground was kept moist. Town attorney Brad Sears also said the town’s nuisance ordinance did not include dust as a possible violation, but the ordinance probably needed to be updated. The town agreed to examine the ordinance at its retreat in January and also inform Norton of the EPD actions. login to post comments |
