To veterans: Let me thank you for your service to your country. You are all heroes in my book whether you served in a combat unit during a time of hostility or had a tour of duty in time of peace. You volunteered or were called to serve, you answered the call and dutifully served wherever the military command sent your unit.

I hope that all of you veterans still remember fondly the young men with whom you shared your military experience, you trained together, you ate together and you partied together “on liberty.”

Many of us are still out here serving fellow veterans and their causes by being members of VFW posts and/or American Legion posts. We would like you to join us for fellowship, camaraderie and service to veterans and veterans’ causes.

If you ever considered joining a veterans group, I urge you to do it now. For veterans who served overseas during times of hostility, you probably qualify to join America’s oldest veterans organization, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States of America. We would welcome you to join us in VFW Post 9949.

If you don’t meet the VFW requirements on Foreign service, please join an American Legion Post.

Please contact me at 770-631-1439 or by e-mail at rjkonrad@juno.com if you would like to join VFW Post 9949. There is a special window of opportunity for life membership that exists for the next 45 days that will save you a lot of money if you are a paid member before year’s end.

I urge you all to consider writing articles of your experiences in the military that the local newspapers can publish in their issues around the two national holidays for veterans, Veterans Day and Memorial Day. Our story won’t be told if we don’t tell it or write it. We owe it to our comrades who have expired to see that history accurately tells the story of our military experiences.
