The Peachtree City Council is expected to continue its moratorium on rezonings for multi-family projects at its meeting Thursday night.

The moratorium is based on the city’s wish to maintain the high quality of police, fire and emergency services, the high quality of education and reducing traffic congestion. It does not completely prevent developers from seeking such rezonings; however, they must first get council approval to do so.

Apartments, duplexes and townhomes are all considered multi-family uses under the city’s zoning ordinance.

In other business, council is slated to select a new municipal court judge as current judge Eric Maxwell is stepping down from the role due to his election to the Fayette County Board of Commissioners. Local attorney Stephen Ott proposed the lowest rate among three attorneys seeking the position; he also has served as the fill-in municipal court judge for the city the past three years.
