On Saturday, Nov. 18, The Clayton Community Big Band will perform as part of the 2006 – 2007 Concert Series hosted by Fayette Presbyterian Church. The 20-member jazz ensemble is comprised of Clayton State University music students and community members from the surrounding Clayton County area.

The group was founded in 2000 by director and Clayton State jazz studies instructor Stacey Houghton, for the purpose of providing a jazz-oriented performing vehicle for some of the community’s finest musicians.

Their concerts include works in swing, bebop, Dixieland, rock, funk, Latin, and other contemporary styles. They perform at local society events and music festivals in addition to their twice-yearly formal concerts in Spivey Hall.

The concert this Saturday begins at 7 p.m. and will be held in the church sanctuary. A “Meet the Musicians” reception will follow in the fellowship hall and all are invited to stay and greet the artists in a more informal setting.

The Clayton Community Big Band concert is the second in the 2006 – 2007 Concert Series at Fayette Presbyterian Church. Remaining performances in the series include Michelle Tabor and Alfonso Lopez on Sunday, Jan. 21 at 3 p.m., The Simpsonwood 8:45 Band on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 3 p.m., and Reggie Dancil on Sunday, April 15 at 3 p.m.

Tickets for individual concerts are $10 each, or “Pick 3” and purchase tickets to any three events for only $25. Student admission for each concert is $5.

Tickets may be purchased online (using PayPal) at the church Web site www.fayettepcusa.org, or by calling the church office at 770-461-7147.

Fayette Presbyterian Church is at 791 Forest Ave. (Ga. Hwy. 92 North), Fayetteville.
