Members of the Catholic Church of St. Gabriel in Fayetteville will celebrate their first Thanksgiving in the new sanctuary dedicated earlier this month.

A special Mass of Thanksgiving and blessing of food will take place in the sanctuary at 10 a.m. Thanksgiving day led by the church pastor, Fr. Jimmy Adams. Parishioners are invited to bring food and wine that they will consume at their family dinner table later that day to the Mass for a special blessing.

The Fayetteville Catholic community is in the midst of a building campaign using the theme “Building Together, continuing our walk in Faith.” The new structure is the highlight of that campaign which will continue in the years to come until a five-phase master plan is completed.

The new church is a two story stone building with the sanctuary and other associated areas on the upper level and classrooms, music room, kitchen, nursery and other rooms on the lower level. The entire building measures over 20,000 square feet and was built by local contractor, Leslie Construction.

Advent will begin on Dec. 3 and the parish will begin an aggressive season leading up to its first Christmas in the new home. The parish advent penance service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 20. The Christmas schedule will be announced at a later date.

The Catholic Church of St. Gabriel is at 152 Antioch Road, just south of the intersection of Ga. Hwy. 92 South and Antioch Road. For additional information or directions, call the parish office, 770-461-0492.
