Georgia Farm Bureau will award four $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors this winter, Neil Milam, South Fulton County Farm Bureau president, recently announced. Students are eligible to submit an application if they, a parent or a legal guardian were a member of Georgia Farm Bureau as of April 1, 2006. The scholarships are sponsored each year by the Georgia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company in cooperation with the Georgia Farm Bureau Women’s Committee.

Applicants must plan to enter a unit of the University System of Georgia or Berry College during the 2007-08 academic year to pursue an undergraduate degree in agricultural and environmental sciences, family and consumer sciences or a related agribusiness field. All applications must be submitted by Friday, Dec. 8.

“I would like to encourage any of our local high school seniors who are planning to pursue a degree in agriculture or family and consumer sciences to consider applying for the Farm Bureau Scholarship,” said Peggie Earnest, South Fulton County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee chairman. “Farm Bureau welcomes the opportunity to assist our state’s future ag leaders in continuing their education.”

The ten state finalists must attend an interview with the scholarship judges in Macon on Sat., March 3, 2007. The four state winners and an alternate will be announced during a luncheon following the interviews.

Scholarship recipients will receive $750 their freshman year of college and will receive the remaining $750 their sophomore year of college provided they maintain at least a B average their freshman year.

Please contact South Fulton County Farm Bureau office at 770-463-1730 for more information about the scholarship program or to obtain an application.  You may also download a copy of the application by going to www.gfb.org and selecting GFB Programs and then FB Women.

Georgia Farm Bureau is the state’s largest general farm organization with almost 430,000 member-families statewide.
