More warehouses planned for FairburnMon, 11/13/2006 - 9:33am

Fairburn Planning & Zoning Commission Nov. 7 heard an update on a conceptual site plan for a 38-acre industrial park to be located on the southeast corner of Ga. Highway 92 and Oakley Industrial Boulevard. Already approved by Fulton County prior to the area’s recent annexation, Public Works Director Troy Besseche told commissioners plans call for construction of a 400,000 square-foot warehouse distribution center. Besseche said the city is honoring the conceptual site plan approval issued by Fulton County and that no action by the commission was currently required on the project. Owned by M.D. Hodges, the Southpark Industrial Park property, the temporary name for the project, is a part of the overall Southpark Master Plan. The property was zoned M-2 Heavy Industrial when recently annexed. That zoning excludes Solid Waste Disposal and Collection facilities. Besseche said Fairburn has begun an inquiry on the status of the project’s land disturbance permit. Also at the meeting, commissioners recommended approval of the proposed conceptual site plan for Advanced Auto Parts and the proposed landscaping plan for the Sleep Inn. The board approved the proposed Advanced Auto plan with one dissenting vote after significant conversation over concerns about elevations and the overall look of the building in the historic district. The proposed brick and stucco building was favorably received by some on the board, though others wanted Advanced Auto Parts to construct a store more in line with the look of the new Tyrone store. “If Advanced can do the Tyrone store, they can do this one,” said Chairman Adolph Snell. Commissioner Lawson Sayer agreed, saying the city needs to stick to its guns when considering approval of the proposal. “If they want to put up a store here they will have to do what we require,” he said. The recommendation for approval of the landscaping plan for the four-story, 74-room Sleep Inn located on Oakley Industrial near Ga. Highway 74 came with the provision that the access road on the south side of the property be paved to the property line to facility linkage with the area’s future inter-parcel access roadway. login to post comments |
