Fayette County Leadership Symposium

McIntosh High School principal Tracie Fleming and the executive officers of the McIntosh Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) welcomed Superintendent Dr. John DeCotis and Assistant Superintendent for Operations Sam Sweat on Wednesday, Oct. 11 to the annual Fayette County PTO Leadership Symposium.

This was the first time the symposium was held at a high school location. Last year J.C. Booth Middle School PTO hosted the symposium with State School Superintendent Kathy Cox serving as the keynote speaker.

Executive officers and committee chairs from 14 of Fayette County's 27 elementary, middle and high schools attended this year's gathering and heard Sweat discuss the redistricting process.

Workshops for PTO presidents and treasurers were conducted as well as workshops on fund raising, parent recruitment and involvement, and programming.

The symposium was created in 2002 as a way for the PTO executive boards and committee chairs in the county to get together and share ideas, strategies and concerns.

In addition to the annual symposium, a presidents-only session is held each spring. Last year the session was hosted by the Rising Starr Middle School PTO and this spring it will be hosted by the Sara Harp Minter Elementary School PTO.
