Doug Mitchell, the founder of Pathway Communities, is known for his development efforts in Peachtree City, SummerGrove, Avery Park and Monarch Village on Atlanta’s Southside and Lake Forest, Lake Astoria and River Rock on the Northside of Atlanta. But what many may not realize is his devotion to the Boy Scouts of America.

Mitchell has been active in the Boy Scouts since childhood and in 1956 was the second person in Fayette County to become an Eagle Scout.
Today marks another Boy Scout milestone for Doug Mitchell. He has been awarded the Distinguished Eagle Award by the National Eagle Scout Service and joins others like Neil Armstrong, 38th President Gerald R. Ford, H Ross Perot, founder of Electronic Data Systems and The Perot Group and United States Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld who have also received this award.
This award is granted to Eagle Scouts who, after 25 years, have distinguished themselves in their life work and who have shared their talents with their community on a voluntary basis.

“In my 21 years of working with the Boy Scouts, I have not known a person more deserving of this award,” says George McGovern, Scout Executive for the Flint River Council, Boy Scouts of America. “Doug has impacted so many people through his involvement with the Boy Scouts and his volunteer spirit is a true reflection of his character and way of life.”

Mitchell is past president of the Flint River Council, where he continues to serve as a member of the Executive Board, and is serving as Southern Region Vice President and is also on the National High Adventure Committee. He has been honored as a Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope by the Boy Scouts and is also a member of the Heritage Society.
