The Sleep Disorders Center of Southeastern Lung Care in South Atlanta, located in Riverdale and directed by Dr. Jeffrey E. Michaelson, recently received program reaccreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates The Sleep Disorders Center of Southeastern Lung Care in South Atlanta on fulfilling the high standards required for receiving reaccreditation as a sleep disorder center, said Dr. Lawrence J. Epstein, president of the AASM. The center is a significant resource to the local medical community and will provide academic and scientific value in addition to the highest quality care for patients suffering from sleep disorders.

To receive a five-year accreditation, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional quality healthcare as designated by the AASM. The AASM accreditation process involves detailed inspection of a centers facility and staff, including an evaluation of testing procedures, patient contacts, and physician training. Additionally, the facilitys goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves. Currently, the AASM accredits 850 sleep medicine centers and laboratories across the country.

The sleep center is at 181 Upper Riverdale Road, Building A, Suite 2, and can be contacted by telephone at 770-994-3008.

The AASM is a professional membership organization dedicated to assuring quality care for patients with sleep disorders, promoting the advancement of sleep research, and providing public and professional education.
