Has anyone thought to investigate how Highgrove and Whitewater consistently dodge the redistricting bullet? Both subdivisions are closer to Minter and both the Whitewater schools. Highgrove, in particular, has been a big contributor to the overcrowding problem at the Starr’s Mill complex. They are just as close to Bennett’s Mill as Rising Starr. Distance doesn’t appear to be a factor, as has been seen in the current redistricting plans. Nor the desire to keep them in the same complex throughout their school career. My subdivision is on its fourth elementary school. As a former school council member, we were told by Fred Oliver that New Haven would be districted Minter, Whitewater. They are now going to Starr’s Mill schools. What happened to that? Sounds like someone might be paying off the school board. Maybe Peachtree City parents should get someone to look into this.

Thank you, Fayette County Board of Education. I now know why my child, one of five who travel 1.3 miles to Booth, needs to be moved 8.9 miles to the new Bennett’s Mill Middle School. It needs to be done, so that the students of the Amli Apartments, who live five miles away and have been attending Flat Rock, can take their place.

----------------------------------------------------------------

To the Crabapple resident who accused me of elitism and said I should get my facts straight: Yes, I did move to PTC seven years ago, but to an older home in a small, more modest, well-established neighborhood. I have neighbors whose children attended Oak Grove when it first opened, so I’m sure our neighborhood preceded most of yours. I do feel justified in arguing that our few children who live less then a 10-minute bike ride to Booth should have priority to attend Booth over other neighborhoods that are over five miles away and just as close to another local middle school. I’m quite sure our subdivision has never been referred to as “elite” before, so I’ll take it as a compliment.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Neal Boortz says that stupid people should not be allowed to vote. A good example of stupidity was the letter from the grandparent about not allowing children of school employees who reside out of county to attend schools. Fayette County Board of Education has nothing to do with this policy. It is a state law that teachers and other school employees can bring their students across county lines. That is great. These people should have some perks for their hard work.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Let me get this straight: Tyrone will not allow the new Legacy Theater to have a marquee? Barry Amos said he does not want to start a precedent. Well, that did not stop Amos and the mayor from starting a precedent when they decided to allow less than one acre lots in Southhampton subdivision. The mayor said she OK’d the smaller lots because she was afraid of a lawsuit. So maybe the owners of the Legacy should threaten Tyrone with a lawsuit. You can bet the mayor will cave.

I don’t hear their voices. I refer to recent articles in Free Speech that point out that not all Muslims are terrorists. That most Muslims are peaceful and want only to live in harmony with non-Muslims. After all, radical Muslims are only a small minority of the Muslim faith and therefore, the majority should not be lumped in with the “bad guys.” Okay, let’s put that statement in perspective: If Muslim radicals or terrorists are a small minority, what does that mean? If only 10 percent of the Muslim population of 1.3 billion are the fringe element, that would mean we are facing an army of more than a hundred million terrorists throughout the world with the primary objective of enslaving Western countries or killing anyone who resists. I dare say that no nation has ever faced a force of this magnitude in the history of man. I believe that one of the most effective weapons against these elements would be the public outcry of 90 percent of peace-loving Muslims in this country and around the world. Unfortunately, I haven’t heard their voices condemning their brethren or seen evidence that Muslim leaders, organizations and communities (particularly in the U.S. and Europe) are actively engaged in cooperating with authorities to identify those radicals in their communities and mosques. What I do see in the broader Muslim communities are continuous efforts to undermine our Western culture and values and to impose their Islamic laws, religion and politics on non-Muslims. Unlike violent acts of terrorism like 9-11, 7-7, and bombings in Spain and Bali, non-violent acts by the (supposed) main street Muslims seem to fall under the radar screen. I would suggest that Americans look to Europe for a preview of what is coming our way if we continue to underestimate the danger and threat unfolding before our eyes.

To the person complaining about cheerleading squads’ procedures, I am familiar with the returning student who was allowed to try out with two new students. This girl was prohibited from trying out last school year due to the school’s misinterpretation of a Georgia state law. When the school’s administration learned that they had accidentally misinterpreted the law, they graciously gave this student the opportunity to try out with the two new students. (All three girls made the squad.) May I suggest that you get your facts straight before you go complaining to Free Speech and elsewhere.

Harold Logsdon, the notorious leader of Peachtree City political special interest crowd, has fibbed his way through office for an entire year. Instead of keeping up with his promises, he has turned the city into a developer welfare state. Rubbing elbows with the developer elite will only get you so far, Mr. Mayor. Stop TDK now. If you start returning impact fees and taxes to local developers, we want a voter referendum on cutting your salary in half.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Our previous city council, the ones you could trust, fought toe-to-toe with the very same people who are now helping Mayor Logsdon assault our quality of life. Logsdon’s big claims were less taxation and more leadership and now he’s constantly giving the newspapers dozens of excuses of why bad things are happening but there’s nothing he can do about it. And for all those meager results, he tried to sneak himself a 100 percent pay raise.

----------------------------------------------------------------

I abhor the direction Harold Logsdon is pursuing. He invokes the image of Ali Baba and his 40 thieves. The camels are packed with campaign plunder from the TDK road and the Westside annexation. His lies and pillaging are ruling the day. He’s demanding double the wages for his mere part-time job. Destruction and a band of fat thieves are all that is left in this tyrant’s wake. Now he’s considering giving rebates for developer impact fees with our city tax dollars.

----------------------------------------------------------------

No more freebees for developers in PTC. Don’t you dare start talking about tax refunds for developers and 100 percent pay increases for the mayor and council until the average homeowners see their taxes lowered.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Fayetteville and Peachtree City are going on massive development binges. That means three things: 1. More traffic. 2. More crowded schools and shifting districts. And 3. Lower government service levels. We didn’t have these problems with Greg Dunn and Steve Brown who were outspoken but reliable. They held growth down to reasonable levels. For those who voted the other way, enjoy the future traffic; you’ve earned it.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse around Ga. Highway 74, the City Council of Peachtree City throws in two big old box stores. This really is the beginning of the end. Higher crime, rail yards next to subdivisions, clogged roads and high density building will make us no better than Gwinnett or Henry counties. The “special-ness” of Peachtree City is being ripped out by Logsdon and his crew right before our eyes.

----------------------------------------------------------------

My gosh, when is it going to stop? More big box stores on Ga. Highway 54. The developers win and we lose. What in the world is the city council thinking? What happened to our sense of community?

----------------------------------------------------------------

I just called the PTC Tennis Center to see what time a college team was playing today so that we can come support our favorite team, [and] was told by Becky that they didn’t have a schedule and that I just should call someone to get that info or just drive over and figure it out. Stupid me for thinking someone at the center is actually doing something supportive of tennis. I guess we will lose the SEC Tournament next due to poor support. You people that dismantled the center should be ashamed of yourselves. What happened to customer service? Oh that’s right, they aren’t used to having any customers anymore.

----------------------------------------------------------------

So that’s what’s going on. The Stonewall/Courthouse gang has been rooting around for pay raises for everybody. The county administrator gets a golden parachute; the clerks, the department heads and the judges get more money, more staff, more judges, more staff, more pensions, more staff.... And then, without even having to vote, the commissioners get an automatic raise. That’s as good a deal as Congress. All that campaign talk about “cut back this” and “competitive bids” and “fiscal whatever” — it ain’t happening, folks.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Last night we went to one of the newer restaurants in PTC. We have been there several times and the service has never been great, but we like the environment. We sat in the bar area and it took about 10 minutes for the server to get our drink order. Next we order our food. The meal I ordered on the menu they did not serve. So I chose another. To make a long story short, they had one person working the entire bar area including the tables. The server was messing up orders left and right. It was taking about 10 minutes to get drink refills. What really annoyed me was the fact that two employees were sitting at the bar drinking alcohol with their uniforms on. You couldn’t pay me $3 to eat at this restaurant again.

----------------------------------------------------------------

To the PTC adult or teen who must have admired my fall display: I’m glad you liked it so much that you returned to steal the other white ghost pumpkin I had. Next year you can buy your own at Pike’s, but in the meantime, please put $18 in my mailbox. Shame on you, whoever you are. I guess golf carts make real good getaway cars too.

How sweet it would be if enough cities would enact laws about illegal immigration and the ACLU would go broke from filing all those lawsuits.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Know-it-all pundits claim to ”know” in advance how our election will come out. They also “know” that voting is work Americans are not willing to do.

----------------------------------------------------------------

If illegal immigration is 100 percent a federal responsibility, does that mean that all local law enforcement is moot? Is it against local laws to give false ID to a local cop? Is it against local law to house 20 people in a unit designed for one family? Do you have local laws about parking on lawns or stealing grocery carts or loud music after a certain hour?

----------------------------------------------------------------

Thumbs down to the 7/24 media for treating our election as if it were a sporting event.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Mexico is the second leading supplier of oil to the U.S. With that kind of wealth why does 20 percent of the population want to leave?

----------------------------------------------------------------

I believe building a wall to stop illegal immigration is not the right way. It is a waste of money that could be used to improve the lives of some people here. The most efective and cheapest way is to start enforcing the laws, fine the employers that hire them in a significant amount for each one, also fine the property owners that rent to them. If the illegals can not find jobs and place to live, they won’t come.

Separate languages to satisfy the egos of the elites serve neither the nation nor the common man. If Martians had settled the United States we’d all speak Martian. English may not be the perfect choice for communication but it is the language history gave us.
