The Whitewater Middle School Symphonic Band, under the direction of Bill Melton, has been selected to perform at the 2006 Southeastern United States Middle School Concert Band Clinic at Troy State University in Troy, Alabama.

They will present their concert December 1 at 10 a.m. in the Claudia Crosby Theatre on the Troy State University campus.

The band will perform for over 300 middle school students, parents and band directors. They were selected for the Southeastern United States Middle School Concert Band Clinic after submitting an audition tape and application. They were only one of two bands selected from across the southeast to be selected for this event. The award winning symphonic band has also performed at the 2005 Southern Division Music Educators National Conference in Tampa. The program will feature guest conductor Rob Grice, an internationally recognized composer and educator. Grice will conduct the band on one of his own compositions entitled Zeal. The program will also feature the talents of David Owens, a gifted percussionist and musician. Owens, a former student at Whitewater Middle School and Fayette County High School, is currently attending Columbus State University majoring in music performance and business finance. He will be featured as a xylophone soloist playing “Flight of the Bumble Bee” with the symphonic band. This exciting and fast paced composition is sure to entertain all. The symphonic band will also present a preview concert of the music for Troy State University November 14 at 7 p.m. at Harp’s Crossing Baptist Church. The concert will be performed in the church’s new sanctuary. Everyone is invited to attend. For more information about the Whitewater bands go to www.wmsband.org.
